ABOUT US

The tranquillity of the crystal clear water and willow trees will bring you closer to nature.

Malmane Eye Private Nature Retreat, also known as Malmani Eye, is conveniently located on the tar road 40km from Lichtenburg on the Ottoshoop road. It’s an easy 30-minute drive from Lichtenburg, Mahikeng and Zeerust and can be accessed with a normal vehicle.  In addition to the convenience of enjoying easy access to the tar road, the location is sufficiently distant from civilisation, bordering a conservation area, to provide the sensation of being “away from it all.”

The source of the water is a unique dolomitic spring (aquifer) in which the water is forced to the surface through fractures and appears on the surface as "eyes". An aquifer is an underground layer of permeable rock, sediment, or soil that contains water and allows the movement of water through it. These geological formations can store and transmit groundwater. Aquifers are crucial for sustaining both surface water and providing a source of water for wells. They are vital in supplying water for drinking, irrigation, and industrial processes.

Wetlands cover a large portion of the riverside section of the property to an area of approximately 17 hectares.

The water temperature ranges between 10 and 22 degrees and tastes exceptional, probably because of the high magnesium and calcium content.

The prolific fish life includes largemouth black bass, blue tilapia, carp and catfish, partly due to the variety of insects in the area.

We have spotted 105 different kinds of bird species. We also have peacocks and black swans roaming around the facility.

You will also experience the reeds lightning up at night due to fireflies/lightning bugs.

The trees in the scattered forests are mainly the wild olive, sweet thorn, karee, white stinkwood and the camel thorn tree.

An array of wildlife freely roams in the expanse of the natural surroundings. Among the inhabitants are the bushbuck, reedbuck, kudu, warthog, steenbok, wild boar, otters, and various wild cats, including the caracal and civet. Typically, these animals are found beyond the confines of the facility, as the territorial markings of the nyalas designate their distinct territory.

The current owner acquired the farm in the early 90s; below are a few pictures of the early days.
